Azure Track at Cloud Expo
Microsoft has combined its Azure group with its Server & Solutions group to form a Server & Cloud Computing Division (SCD), a pairing of on-premises and cloud solutions inside its Server & Tools Business (STB) where they can share technologies.
The move will put Azure in close proximity to Windows Server, SQL Server, Visual Studio and System Center.
According to a blog posting announcing the unit, it’s supposed to signify that Azure, which won’t go live until next year, has “moved beyond an advanced development project to an important and growing business for Microsoft.”
It says the “move better aligns our resources with our strategy – creating a single organization focused on delivering solutions for customers that span on-premises data centers and the cloud.”
It means that the Azure development team will move from under chief software architect Ray Ozzie to the Server & Tools Business run by Bob Muglia (pictured). SVP Amitabh Srivastava will head the new division, reporting to Muglia.
Corporate VP Bill Laing, who runs the Server and Solutions group, will report to Amitabh.
The Azure business and marketing team will continue to be led by Doug Hauger but it will join the Server and Tools marketing group under corporate VP Robert Wahbe, reporting to corporate VP Bob Kelly, who is also responsible for Windows Server, System Center and Forefront.
