(ISC)2(R) Names Winner of 2nd Annual Government Information Security Leadership Award

Stephen Gates Honored for His Role in Improving Information Assurance of Fielded Systems and of Deploying Forces of the Departme

PALM HARBOR, Fla., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium [(ISC)2(R)] the non-profit international leader in educating and certifying information security professionals worldwide and currently celebrating the Year of the Information Security Professional, today announced that Stephen M. Gates, a staff specialist for Naval Warfare and Net-Centric Systems for the Director, Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E), US Department of Defense (DoD), will receive the 2nd Annual (ISC)2 Government Information Security Leadership Award. The (ISC)2 US Government Advisory Board, comprised of volunteer, senior-level information security professionals responsible for counseling (ISC)2 on policies, trends and certifications within the public sector, each year selects a federal executive who makes significant contributions to the improvement of the federal information technology security workforce.

As a principal staff advisor for testing and evaluation of strategic systems and tactical command, control, communications and intelligence (C3I) systems, Mr. Gates has leveraged 20 years of experience to take a highly systematic and strategic approach to conducting periodic IA tests and evaluations of DoD information systems and to institute a continuous and innovative improvement process for testing service and combatant commands.

(ISC)2 recognized Mr. Gates for his leadership, professionalism and perseverance in aligning the efforts of a wide variety of military, intelligence and command organizations within the DoD to develop a coherent and successful process that dramatically improved the information assurance (IA) capabilities of forward-deployed units. Mr. Gates is also being recognized for his contributions to decreasing the turnover rate of IA personnel within his organization by creating opportunities for professional growth when employees move from one organization to another, as well as for his efforts to establish a series of semi-annual Information Assurance and Interoperability (IA&I) workshops.

"We are very proud to recognize Stephen Gates as the second recipient of this prestigious award," says Lynn McNulty, CISSP, director of government affairs for (ISC)2 and co-chair of the (ISC)2 US Government Advisory Board. "The individual leadership and initiative that Mr. Gates has demonstrated in an effort to improve the information assurance posture of the United States Armed Forces and his focus on leveraging new and existing efforts across the Department for professional growth for IA personnel clearly meets the high standards of achievement conveyed by the (ISC)2 Government Information Security Leadership Award."

The (ISC)2 Government Information Security Leadership Award, part of (ISC)2's efforts to recognize the ongoing commitment by federal information security leaders to build a highly qualified and ethical IA workforce, will be presented to Mr. Gates by, Howard A. Schmidt, president and CEO, R & H Security Consulting, LLC, former White House Cyber Security Advisor, and an (ISC)2 Board Member, and Lynn McNulty. The award ceremony will take place after Mr. Schmidt's keynote address at the FCW Events Security 2005 Conference, to be held at 12:45 p.m. on November 29, 2005, at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.

Digital Transformation is much more than a buzzword. The radical shift to digital mechanisms for almost every process is evident across all industries and verticals. This is often especially true in financial services, where the legacy environment is many times unable to keep up with the rapidly shifting demands of the consumer. IoT is rapidly becoming mainstream as more and more investments are made into the platforms and technology. As this movement continues to expand and gain momentum it creates a massive wall of noise that can be difficult to sift through. Unfortunately, this inevitably makes IoT less approachable for people to get started with and can hamper efforts to integrate this key technology into your own portfolio. There are so many connected products already in place today with many hundreds more on the h...
The standardization of container runtimes and images has sparked the creation of an almost overwhelming number of new open source projects that build on and otherwise work with these specifications. Of course, there's Kubernetes, which orchestrates and manages collections of containers. It was one of the first and best-known examples of projects that make containers truly useful for production use. However, more recently, the container ecosystem has truly exploded.
