Fidelis Security Systems Joins Data Governance Council Formed by IBM

Helps Clarify, Resolve Data Governance Challenges Related to Information Security, Privacy and Corporate Compliance

BETHESDA, Md., Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Fidelis Security Systems, the authority on extrusion prevention, today announced it has joined the Data Governance Council. The group, which was formed by IBM in 2005 along with dozens of leading corporations, institutions and technology solution providers, is a global effort to develop a 'blueprint' of common solutions for challenges that apply to security, privacy, trust and corporate compliance issues.

Data Governance is the process by which companies govern appropriate access to and the use and transmission of their critical data by measuring operational risk and controlling security exposures. The Data Governance Council is working to redefine the management of data governance policy, the impact of policy on business processes and practices, and the enforcement of policy in IT infrastructure, information management, and organizational behavior. Members of the Council are collaborating on ways to address these issues using IBM and business partner solutions and concepts.

Fidelity Security Systems offers the DataSafe Extrusion Prevention System(R), the first Extrusion Prevention System and the only network security solution that prevents the unauthorized network transfer of critical or sensitive information across all channels on gigabit speed networks. While traditional security solutions control who has access to information, they do not solve the extrusion problem. Rather than the traditional approach of focusing on who has access to the asset, DataSafe focuses on the asset itself. DataSafe's multiple content analyzers use a variety of methods -- statistical analysis, pattern recognition and exact matching -- to identify digital assets before they leave the organization's network. This direct approach actually mitigates the risks of unauthorized network transfer of digital assets, rather than just reporting on an organization's compliance with internal polices and external regulations.

"The protection of critical digital assets is important to implementing corporate governance and brand assurance," said Timothy Sullivan, CEO of Fidelis Security Systems. "We applaud IBM for spearheading the effort to develop a data governance framework and look forward to contributing our expertise in digital asset protection to the process."

"Data Governance is about much more than understanding your critical and sensitive information. It has to include protective measures to prevent the unauthorized disclosure of digital assets," said Steven Adler, chair of the Data Governance Council and program director, IBM Data Governance Solutions. "Fidelis Security Systems knowledge will assist the IBM Data Governance Council in building widely accepted standards to help companies, government and other enterprises better protect the data at the heart of today's organizations."

Digital Transformation is much more than a buzzword. The radical shift to digital mechanisms for almost every process is evident across all industries and verticals. This is often especially true in financial services, where the legacy environment is many times unable to keep up with the rapidly shifting demands of the consumer. The constant pressure to provide complete, omnichannel delivery of customer-facing solutions to meet both regulatory and customer demands is putting enormous pressure on...
IoT is rapidly becoming mainstream as more and more investments are made into the platforms and technology. As this movement continues to expand and gain momentum it creates a massive wall of noise that can be difficult to sift through. Unfortunately, this inevitably makes IoT less approachable for people to get started with and can hamper efforts to integrate this key technology into your own portfolio. There are so many connected products already in place today with many hundreds more on the h...
The standardization of container runtimes and images has sparked the creation of an almost overwhelming number of new open source projects that build on and otherwise work with these specifications. Of course, there's Kubernetes, which orchestrates and manages collections of containers. It was one of the first and best-known examples of projects that make containers truly useful for production use. However, more recently, the container ecosystem has truly exploded. A service mesh like Istio addr...

To Really Work for Enterprises, MultiCloud Adoption Requires Far Better and Inclusive Cloud Monitoring and Cost Management … But How? Overwhelmingly, even as enterprises have adopted cloud computing and are expanding to multi-cloud computing, IT leaders remain concerned about how to monitor, manage and control costs across hybrid and multi-cloud deployments. It’s clear that traditional IT monitoring and management approaches, designed after all for on-premises data centers, are falling short in ...
