Former NSA Deputy Director William Crowell Joins Ounce Labs' Board of Directors

Security Veteran to Help Extend Company Leadership in Public Sector Deployment

WALTHAM, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/03/06 -- Ounce Labs, the leader in software security assurance solutions, today announced the appointment of William Crowell to its board of directors. With an extensive career in the public sector, reaching the National Security Agency's highest civilian position as deputy director, Crowell is one of the nation's foremost experts on security and assurance in the federal government. He has also achieved prominence in the private sector as CEO of Cylink Corporation, a leading provider of e-business security solutions, and as an advisor on security strategy for leading companies including Lockheed Martin, SafeNet, and Unisys.

"Software assurance is critically important right now for federal information systems, which manage everything from military logistics to financial transactions, and countless stockpiles of very valuable, sensitive information," said Crowell. "In my career, I've gained a very clear understanding of both the offensive and defensive side of cyber attacks, and I came to work with Ounce because of the tremendous benefit they provide for those responsible for maintaining data integrity and security."

Crowell has gained additional federal experience serving on numerous panels to improve the United States' intelligence and security systems, including the Markle Foundation Task Force on National Security in the Information Age. In 2001, the Secretary of Defense also appointed Crowell to a federal advisory committee that conducted a comprehensive review of the U.S. Nuclear Command and Control System.

"Bill helped establish much of the NSA's security strategy and policy during his tenure there, so he has a unique appreciation for how the government should be protecting its data and resources," said Hugh Scandrett, president and CEO of Ounce Labs. "His understanding of how to support federal agency missions as well as his extensive experience in delivering private sector security solutions make him an extremely valuable, well-rounded resource. With his technical expertise and ability to develop sound business cases for software assurance, he is helping us more effectively serve a large number of federal and commercial customers."

In addition to his success as CEO of Cylink, Crowell gained experience in the private sector as a vice president at Atlantic Aerospace Electronics Corporation, now a subsidiary of Titan Systems. He currently serves on the board of directors for ArcSight Inc., Narus, and RVison, and is director and chairman of Broadware Technologies.
