Virtualization: Virtual StoneGate Security Solution Bridges Physical and Virtual Worlds

Centrally Managed Virtual Security Solution Ensures Network Security

Stonesoft introduced a comprehensive StoneGate Security Solution for VMware virtual environments. The first virtual appliance, StoneGate Firewall/VPN, protects the network and ensures resilient connectivity in both virtual and physical network environments. The virtual StoneGate Security Solution contains unified management and multiple deployment possibilities, allowing organizations to reduce the costs and environmental impact in their IT infrastructure.

“The StoneGate Security Solution for VMware virtual environments stands out through its flexible deployment possibilities and advanced manageability,” said Mark Boltz, Senior Solutions Architect at Stonesoft. “Whereas regular, hardware-based firewalls only work with physical networks, the StoneGate virtual Firewall/VPN appliance, as well as other virtual StoneGate appliances, can be deployed in both virtual and physical network environments. In addition, all virtual StoneGate appliances can be managed from the same centralized management console as the other components in the network security solution. This brings organizations significant cost savings, flexibility and sustainability.”

Virtual appliances provide organizations with enhanced manageability and flexibility in virtual environments as they make it easy to create new, or delete redundant, machines. In addition, they help organizations to reduce the environmental burden of their IT infrastructure through improved energy-efficiency and reductions in the need for server room space and hardware equipment. As one of the few providers of software-based security solutions, Stonesoft is uniquely positioned to help organizations of all sizes secure their virtual IT infrastructures.

The virtual StoneGate Firewall/VPN appliance functions like a regular physical network firewall – but protecting the servers in the virtual network by preventing attacks and securing data communications with Virtual Private Networks (VPN). The appliance can be used both in virtual and physical network environments.

StoneGate Security Solution for virtual environments is particularly attractive for Managed Service Providers (MSPs), enabling them to manage several customer networks and appliances with just one server. In addition, the virtual appliances can be installed at any location in the virtual networks, so they can be used to protect the traffic between consolidated servers in virtual environments. With StoneGate Management Center, the organizational security policy can be consistently enforced in both the virtual and physical network environments.

In addition to launching its virtualization offerings, Stonesoft has become a member of the VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) Program.

IoT & Smart Cities Stories
The Internet of Things is clearly many things: data collection and analytics, wearables, Smart Grids and Smart Cities, the Industrial Internet, and more. Cool platforms like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Intel's Galileo and Edison, and a diverse world of sensors are making the IoT a great toy box for developers in all these areas. In this Power Panel at @ThingsExpo, moderated by Conference Chair Roger Strukhoff, panelists discussed what things are the most important, which will have the most profound e...
Two weeks ago (November 3-5), I attended the Cloud Expo Silicon Valley as a speaker, where I presented on the security and privacy due diligence requirements for cloud solutions. Cloud security is a topical issue for every CIO, CISO, and technology buyer. Decision-makers are always looking for insights on how to mitigate the security risks of implementing and using cloud solutions. Based on the presentation topics covered at the conference, as well as the general discussions heard between sessio...
The Jevons Paradox suggests that when technological advances increase efficiency of a resource, it results in an overall increase in consumption. Writing on the increased use of coal as a result of technological improvements, 19th-century economist William Stanley Jevons found that these improvements led to the development of new ways to utilize coal. In his session at 19th Cloud Expo, Mark Thiele, Chief Strategy Officer for Apcera, compared the Jevons Paradox to modern-day enterprise IT, examin...
While the focus and objectives of IoT initiatives are many and diverse, they all share a few common attributes, and one of those is the network. Commonly, that network includes the Internet, over which there isn't any real control for performance and availability. Or is there? The current state of the art for Big Data analytics, as applied to network telemetry, offers new opportunities for improving and assuring operational integrity. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Jim Frey, Vice President of S...
