Telcel, GE Security, and Numerex Join Forces to Expand Wireless Security Monitoring Capabilities to Mexico

Mexico's largest mobile phone carrier to use GE Security's alarm monitoring panel and Numerex's Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technology under Telcel brand

ATLANTA, April 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Numerex Corp. (Nasdaq: NMRX), a leading provider of full-service, highly secure machine-to-machine (M2M) network services and solutions, today announced that it has signed an international agreement with Telcel, a subsidiary of America Movil (NYSE: AMX), and GE Security (NYSE: GE), to provide the first supervised cellular alarm monitoring service for Telcel's customer base.

This collaborative undertaking combines distinct attributes from each company: the quality of the GE hardware; the effectiveness of the Telcel distribution footprint and wireless network; and the M2M integration expertise of Numerex. The new product offering is scheduled to launch in late April 2009 and will eliminate the requirement of a traditional phone line for alarm monitoring, rendered useless when traditional lines are cut or out of service. GE, Telcel and Numerex believe that this service will result in a more reliable alarm connection to local Mexican central stations and a greater degree of safety to the subscribers of the service.

Carlos Pacheco, General Manager for GE Security, Latin America said, "This new foray into the Mexican residential and commercial security market validates GE's commitment to simplifying the user interface for alarm monitoring, which is a universal need that transcends borders. We are proud to work together with Telcel and Numerex to offer enhanced security to millions of Mexican consumers."

The product is cost effective and easy to install. It uses Telcel's GPRS network to send over an IP connection, rapidly and securely, full data events to a central station in order to supply complete information to responding emergency units. In addition, it has the ability to deliver text messages to a subscriber's email-enabled devices. Numerex provides the complete range of gateway and backend services necessary for the efficient operation of the entire wireless security network.

The agreement bears testimony to the fruitful and efficient relationship between GE and Numerex. Both companies had to comply with a host of technical and quality assurance requirements in order to adapt the successful US product to the Mexican market. Their emphasis on product performance, responsiveness and flexibility, as well as data security, exemplified by Numerex's ISO 27001 (information security) certification, were critical elements in Telcel's decision to partner with these technology providers to ensure a fast and seamless implementation. Telcel believes that this new service will provide its customers with an attractive new service option that takes advantage of the strength and versatility of its cellular network.

"Telcel's selection underlines the service quality that GE and Numerex are already bringing to the US residential security customers," Mike Marett, Chief Operating Officer of Numerex, said of this agreement. "It is an operational blueprint for Latin America in general where there is a growing demand for such services."

The new service will be sold primarily through Telcel Retail Sales Centers initially in Mexico City and then released to customers across the rest of the country throughout the year.

Digital Transformation is much more than a buzzword. The radical shift to digital mechanisms for almost every process is evident across all industries and verticals. IoT is rapidly becoming mainstream as more and more investments are made into the platforms and technology. As this movement continues to expand and gain momentum it creates a massive wall of noise that can be difficult to sift through. There are so many connected products already in place today with many hundreds more on the h...
The standardization of container runtimes and images has sparked the creation of an almost overwhelming number of new open source projects that build on and otherwise work with these specifications.
